This addition to a small one story commercial building doubled its size and added leasable office space to the property. Located in the small traditional downtown business district of Merchantville, NJ, this project reinforced the mixed use traditional town fabric that has come to be recognized as a great model for creating livable and walkable communities. This project represents for us proof in place that a thoughtfully designed modern structure can coexist and make a positive contribution to a traditional context. It is in fact accepted doctrine that new structures should not mock or copy historic structures, but each declare the time when they were built. 45 S. Centre strikes this balance of strong identity, and comfortable accord with its context.
