0856 Perkins Dairy Lofts

The Perkins Dairy in Pennsauken, NJ long ago ceased its function as a dairy bottling plant, and has become a warehouse. Now after all that hard service it will be remade as residential loft units. The challenge is this would require difficult modifications to the heavy structure of the building. Inserting interior hallways and stairs would be expensive, eat up space, and make the project infeasible. Instead the conversion is assisted by a new circulation structure at the back of the Dairy. A new front porch to the units, it greets them at the parking where they come and go, and provides access to all the units.
